PE Waivers & CBA Registration
All Washington state students are required to complete 1.5 credits of Physical Education in order to graduate. PE credits are met by taking PE classes at MSHS (0-6th periods), at BC Running Start, or through MSHS summer school (summer school sign-ups open in late Spring).

Students may apply to waive .5 PE credit:
- During or after the student's Junior year, and
- After the student has completed 1 full credit of PE at the high school.
What to do:
- STEP 1: Review criteria shown below to determine if you may be eligible for a PE waiver.
- STEP 2: Download the document that applies to you (click on the appropriate link below).
- STEP 3: Examine the requirements and submission process on page 2 of your waiver and complete your form, obtaining coach signatures.
- STEP 4: Return the completed form to your counselor.
- STEP 5: If you did not take PE at MSHS your freshman year, you must pass the PE CBA (Classroom Based Assessment to receive the PE waiver. Register for the PE CBA (Classroom Based Assessment) HERE.

School Sports PE Waiver - .5 Credit Applied to Transcript
Community Sports PE Waiver - .5 PE Graduation Requirement Waived
Good Cause PE Waiver - .5 PE Graduation Requirement Waived
- Student has participated in two full seasons¹ of district approved sport or cheer
- Student has completed 1.0 credit of PE
- Student has not been and will not be a TA/Tutor at a future time; Exception: Applied Office and Tutoring for Life Skills program
- Student's transcript cannot have a late arrival or early dismissal as a class period
Community Sports PE Waiver - .5 PE Graduation Requirement Waived
- Student has participated in two full seasons of the same community-based athletic activity² that addresses at least 3 fitness components³
- Student has completed 1.0 credit of PE
- Student has not been and will not be a TA/Tutor at a future time; Exception: Applied Office and Tutoring for Life Skills program
- Student's transcript cannot have a late arrival or early dismissal as a class period
Good Cause PE Waiver - .5 PE Graduation Requirement Waived
- Student possesses significant and compelling reasons to justify approval of a waiver, such as a four year course of study that makes it extremely difficult to achive college and career goals without significant hardship
- Student must address why other options (i.e. zero peirod, summer school, online classes) are not viable for meeting the requirement
- Student has completed 1.0 credit of PE
- Student has not been and will not be a TA/Tutor at a future time; Exception: Applied Office and Tutoring for Life Skills program
- Student's transcript cannot have a late arrival or early dismissal as a class period

PE Assessment (cba)
If you are requesting a PE waiver and did not take PE your freshman year, you will need to register to take the PE Classroom Based Assessment (CBA). Email your counselor to confirm if you need to take the PE CBA, then register for the CBA HERE. You will need to log in to your MSHS google account.
